In Forward OR Reverse, the valve directs pressure to the clutch pack. The second thing the shift portion does is mechanically tighten down the reverse band. Go ahead and drain the fluid (ATF Type F). It has Hardin two stage sea water pumps, boat pumped water on the hose with no issue. Backed it in at the ramp and it wouldn’t pump any water.

I like the twin turbo engines, though. If I bought the boat, the engines would come out. I would install fuel injection because its easy to find for a small block. Then get a plate of flat 3/8 or 1/2" to make plates for the back side. You can then get a used or new, offshore mount, from hardin marine, or swap shop here. It bolts to the engine block, then gets bolted to the aluminum L brackets. Drop engine in, align, mark and drill your holes in the aluminum. For anyone that needs to install pipe plugs with ‘allen head’ recesses, hex bolt heads fit right in the recess. So, get proper size bolt head and two nuts that fit threaded part of bolt.
