The Uchigatana is very light and has low requirements, buffed you can defend yourself in melee pretty well without having to put many points in dex/strength.

If I remember correctly, resonant weapon gives the highest elemental buff, for 50%. If you are willing to do some grinding, you can try to get crypt greatsword. These incremental upgrades can be performed by any blacksmith.
