You really need to stop doing that and start waiting until you can get a hero to L+ before doing any ascensions with them. The reason for that is because 3 copies gets you to L, but 4 copies can use fodder to get all the way up to M+ before requiring more copies. You should really read Tree3's guide before going much further in the game.
