You can get away with taking a 1 lvl dip without losing much power so most folks go Monk, although I like to go Stigmatised Witch for the Mage Armor spell, +2 AC hex, +1AC familiar, plus fire immunity way later on (doesnt come online till lvl 19). When you bull rush the enemy, if they fail, it pushes the enemy back. If the enemy is pushed out of threatened area of your allies, they can make attacks of opportunity. Ok just did a test run on my kineticist with Fire/Earth composite blast. What I am seeing is two entries for damage as the results of the attack. Fire is base 20d6 (lvl 20 composite blast)+ 6d6 (greater kineticist crown) +2d6 (lesser kineticist rod) = 28d6+43 damage base. Then it is x.5 .

ES i never played much but they have a lot of versatility in their builds. Both have melee and ranged capabilities and can get good touch attacks. A kineticist will be doing most of their killing from near maximum range (50 feet usually, with extended range or an AOE blast).
