Thinkpad E16 Gen 1 - hinge issues? Looking to buy the Thinkpad E16 gen 1, but have heard a lot about the poor quality hinges popping out of Lenovo's laptops (seems to be their cheaper, plasticy ones like Ideapads). I haven't really seen these complaints about the Thinkpad lineup, but haven't seen much at all about the new Thinkpad E range.

1. Make Lenovo recall the defective models, and. 2. Make Lenovo compensate the owners of the defective models by: a. Allowing them a means of backing up their computer. b. Allowing them to get their defective laptops repaired, free of charge. It is not fair to sell a product that you know is defective, yet refuse to do anything about.

2020. I have a 2021 Legion 7i now but I did have a 2020 Legion 7i and it did have a hinge failure. The new ones are fine. The 2021 L7 series has the improved hinge design that fixed the previous weak hinge problem. Unless you have the 2020 model, otherwise, your L7 shouldn't have the hinge issue. If it's only an aesthetic issue (i.e the plastic cover is mounted crooked) or it is more of a manufacturing defect (i.e. the hinge is mounted crooked) it's hard to say from just this picture. It's also somewhat of a recurring problem with this Lenovo's dual hinge setup. The laptop won't fully shutdown so you'll have to manually hold down the power button to get it to fully turn off. There is a nut inside the middle of the hinge. You need to remove the hinge assembly and remove the cables, in the little cavity where the cables nest inside the hinge, there's a screw to remove the metal hinge cover thing. Once that's off there will be a nut visible at the end of the hinge insides that you'll need to tighten.
