It gets hot there. You could do 10W30 or 10W40 for the engine. I would steer clear of single-weight oil. It all depends on what is available locally, oils are produced to various standards so it doesn't matter who makes it as long as it's made to the relevant standard and is the correct grade and type.

The manual says to use 15W-40 above (I believe) 14 degrees F or something like that. I can use 10W-30 at pretty much all temperatures. Many people use 15W-40 all the time which may explain why you got what you got.
