The reason the 103 HO engine has more compression than the earlier 103 engine is that HD used a different cam. The cam will change the compression ratio more than a head gasket will. Very good bolt in for a 96", little undercammed for the 103" but produces great torque in every range and a wonderful cam for touring (with a little racing fun too). Very quiet and well mannered. No cam noise like some of the other cams out there.

If you have a proper valve job and porting on your heads with a bump in compression to get you over 10:1, preferably 10.5:1 you will see much bigger gains. More along the lines of 115HP and 125 lbs. of torque. 85 -90 HP 100-105 tq on a stock 103 with the 555. 100 hp 110 tq on a stock 103 that would be pretty hard to achieve.

Cruster, I think the factory 103" motors use the SE 260 cam. While I'm no expert, the 203 is a mild cam for 88 and 95 inch motors, probably totally wrong for your 103. I had Woods TW777, which worked well, but that being said, this configuration will be more stock as far as the engine is concerned. Meaning the pistons, heads, and whatnot will be stock.
