Weapons are modelled fairly accurately in PZ from what I can tell. The ease of use of the shotgun is due to the wider spread, upping the chance to hit something, anything. The JS2000 choke tube [pzwiki.net] for example narrows the shot spread upping the damage and range as a result, but requires better aiming to benefit.
