The hill assist actually goes through the ABS and brake system , it holds the breaks on for 2 +/- seconds then releases giving you the chance to be on the throttle and off the clutch. I dont thin hill assist comes on a DCT tho , more then likely did a incorrect update.Anyways, I've noticed that sometimes that as soon as the car starts, it'll very briefly flash "hill start assist not available" along with a yellow warning exclamation light.
